Plan Your Crafting Weekend: Deals and Inspiration
Around here, leaves are starting to fall, and we’re all giddy at the prospect of wearing boots again. (We can only maintain a perfect pedicure for so long.)
Some might call this “sweater weather”, but I definitely call it “crafting weather” for we are finally relieved of the guilt of staying indoors to baste a quilt while the summer sun shines.
What I’m Buying
I know 8 yards seems like a lot, but this colorful plaid feels delightfully on-trend and I can’t find anything similar in a heavier, better-draping wool. I’m planning to just underline the jacket with another layer of the flannel to make it hang better. I could draft and sew in a true lining, but who wants to bother with that? Here’s a great article about underlining. You’ll see why this so much easier than drafting new lining pattern pieces, etc.
Other than this Durango flannel, see which other fabrics have me really excited this week in our Top 10 faves.
What I’m Watching
Don’t judge me, but I’m not really big on Halloween, so I’m already thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas. This weekend I’ll cozy up to watch Pies & Tarts For Every Season on Craftsy/Bluprint with Gesine Bullock-Prado. (Did you know she’s Sandra Bullock’s sister?) The Citrus Curd Tart sounds like the perfect alternative on the Thanksgiving table for those who can’t stomach another piece of Pumpkin Pie. I’m not one of those people, so I’ll just have a slice of both, thank you.
If you’re new to the slightly confusing world of Bluprint/Craftsy, this class is available to purchase a la carte from Craftsy here. But if you’re a Bluprint member like me (Bluprint is the new name for Craftsy’s Unlimited streaming service) you can watch this class and thousands of others for free. The membership is beyond worth it, and if you want to see what it’s like you can get two weeks for just $1 through tomorrow November 27. (Did you miss this deal? You can still test out Bluprint for free here.)
Of course, if I manage to successfully make any of those beautiful pastries, I will be showing them off with glee, and I could use a few more pointers on better craft photography, so I might check out the Craft Photography Fundamentals course that I just noticed on CreativeLive.
Have you taken a CreativeLive course yet? I’m just getting into it. What’s nice is that they offer free live streaming of certain classes so you can get a feel for how the classes are delivered and explore topics you might be interested in learning more about. They’ve got an on-air promotion going on through November 3. Click here to see the list of free classes.
Other than that I’ll be really digging deep and trying my damnedest to finish my Kaffe Rainbow Lone Star quilt top. It’s been dogging me for weeks.
