Hello! If you don't already know me, I'm Callie. In 2009, I founded CityCraft as a modern retail sewing boutique in Dallas, Texas, after teaching myself to sew and recognizing a need in the market for fresh, modern fabrics and sewing education geared towards a new generation.
The support and enthusiasm for CityCraft was truly incredible. CityCraft has the most amazing customers and supporters on earth...
To this day, I count people who I met through CityCraft as some of my very closest and beloved friends. After five years in retail operation, the time came for me to explore new things.
After closing CityCraft in 2014, I moved to Denver, Colorado, and serendipitously fell into a job as a sewing and quilting project developer at Craftsy. (You know that you have found your calling when the job finds you!)
For nearly three years, I worked with the biggest talents in the quilting and sewing world and uncovered my own calling as a quilting and sewing pattern designer in addition to teaching two classes as a Craftsy instructor.
These will remain some of the most exciting years of my life. My colleagues at Craftsy are some of the most talented and exceptional people I have ever met. I never imagined that I would have the experience of working for a fabric company (hooray Boundless and Lily & Loom!) and being a part of Craftsy when the company was acquired by NBC Universal was just about as thrilling as it gets.
I cannot wait to watch what will happen next with Craftsy and NBC. (If you are not a member of Craftsy Unlimited yet, you are missing out big time. It's the coolest thing happening in the creative industry right now.)
As you can tell, I have always, always, always followed my heart. I don't know how to explain it. I just know that I am part of something bigger than me (calling, purpose, or maybe universal intelligence if you're down with the woo-woo) and when I'm called to action, I don't argue, I just follow orders!
Recently, my heart called again. This time to further pursue my creative aspirations and to move back to my family. In addition to a higher calling, I am driven by my values. When your #1 value is your family it's hard to justify not living near them. My niece and nephew are growing up too fast, and I don't want to miss a thing.
I seriously thought - and even proclaimed - that I would never move back to Dallas. But if the last few years have taught me anything, it's never say never!
And here we are.
